All Saints’ Chapel is located on the campus of Sewanee: The University of the South which was founded in 1857. During the Panic of 1907, everything halted and the church served the university in its unfinished state for nearly half a century. Though plans were made to build the chapel in the 1850s, the construction didn’t start until 1905 and was finally completed in 1959. A cornerstone was created and laid for the chapel in 1860, but was blown to pieces by Union troops during the Civil War. A large piece from the rubble was preserved and placed inside the walls of the chapel that stands today.
This pretty old place is breathtaking! The entire campus is full of gothic revival architecture. If you ever get the chance to visit, it’s a must-see!
