The Collier-Lane-Crichlow House or more recently known as the “House of Mayors” is located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The land that the home sits on was granted to Captain William Lytle who served in the Revoluntionary War. He became a founding of father of Murfreesboro. Sterling P. Jones bought a tract of land from him and built this home in 1850. Over the years, the house became residence to 4 different mayors of the city of Murfreesboro. Hence the more the recent name, House of Mayors. Ingram B. Collier, Newton B. Collier, James H. Crichlow, and N. Collier Crichlow were all residents of this home. The last Collier was actually born and grew up inside this home! The house was vacant between 1962-1975 and was at risk for being demolished because it didn’t meet standard housing codes. The Howell family bought it, stabilized it, and partially restored it so that it became once again, up to standard housing codes. More recently, its owner has turned it into a beautiful home restoring its rich history over the last couple of decades. What a treasure for the city of Murfreesboro to house so much of its history! UPDATE: This home has been razed.
