Remember the Adams House I shared a couple weeks ago? The builders of this home loved that one so much, they modeled it after the Adams House! This is the Brown-Hancock House in Woodbury, Tennessee. It was originally built for Christopher Columbus Brown and his family in 1869. After he died, he left it to his daughter Claudia that married Walter Hancock, who was a prominent figure in the community. They made renovations to the home making it much larger. Walter Hancock served as mayor for three full terms. It was a sad day for the Cannon county when he suddenly died from a heart attack in his home. The Tennessean paper said of his death, “Cannon County and that whole section of the state lost its most tireless supporter and promoter. Though he held public office as mayor…he was never one to seek the limelight.” Sounds like he left a wonderful legacy! This home remains a beautiful landmark in the Woodbury community.
