Wisdom House of Jackson, TN

Wisdom House in Jackson, Tennessee was built by John L. Wisdom in 1880 for he and his wife after they married the previous year. He was head of construction and oversaw every detail. Wisdom was a businessman involved in several companies in Jackson. He was president of the First National Bank and also vice president of the Second National Bank.โฃ

This house has a fireplace in every major room and four large chimneys that almost command attention from the exterior. One of my favorite things is the word wisdom carved into the curb in front of the house! There is a Victorian garden across the street from this home (see picture) that has been dedicated to May Cox Oglesby (wife of Ray Wisdom) who resided in the house until 1990. She was described as “a proud, strong, and self-reliant person.”
