Oldest Structure in Mt Pleasant

This cute little house is the Gibson-Hughes House or the well-known Breckenridge Hatter’s Shop. It is the oldest surviving structure in Mount Pleasant having been built in 1819. It’s constructed of cedar logs and was weatherboarded in 1919. Ebenezer Smith had the home built and ran a hatter’s shop from it before deeding it to his son. It was later bought by Henry Gibson who converted it to his residence.
