A noteable favorite of mine, this is Oaklands Mansion in Murfreesboro. This amazing home started as a small two-room brick building (circa 1813), then federal style, and eventually adding a large ell to the sides (circa 1860). It was home to the Maneys who passed it down and soon belonged to the daughter of Tennessee Governor Newton Cannon’s daughter Rachel Adeline Cannon Maney. She was responsibile for tweaking the home’s architecture and giving it that Italianate facade, including that gorgeous porch! The village was originally known as Cannonsburgh (named after her father) and soon after became Murfreesboro, named for Colonel Hardy Murfree whose land this home was built on. Sally Hardy Murfree Maney inherited it when her father died in 1809.
Little fun fact: When I first toured this home back in 2003 or so, I fell in love with the name Adeline after learning about Rachel Adeline Cannon Maney and her contributions to Oaklands. Now I have an Adeline of my own!
