Historic Elizabethton House

The Taylor House in Elizabethton, Tennessee was built in the 1880s by Dr. Abraham Jobe. It was owned by Robert Taylor who was part of the infamous Taylor brothers that were known for Tennessee’s “War of the Roses”. Alf and Robert Taylor both ran against each other for Tennessee governor in 1886. One was a republican and one was a democrat! Even though they were running against each other, they campaigned together and even shared a room and slept in the same bed on the campaign trail. Robert eventually won the governor’s seat and served two terms and a 3rd term a little later. His brother went on to get a seat in congress and later became governor when he was 72 years old.
