Springfield House in Murfreesboro

Have a look at Springfield House in Murfreesboro. Also known as Smith House or Washington House. This is the first frame house on record and one of the oldest homes in Rutherford County. The home was built by Col. John Smith who purchased the land from John Mulherin who received the land grant for his service in the Revolution. The home was constructed between 1805 and 1809. The Civil War was fought on the home’s grounds. It also belonged to a cousin of George Washington and remained in the family until the 1950s. Recently, it was almost demolished but saved and included on the grounds of a large apartment complex that they have called the “Springfield Apartments”. That’s where I was visiting when I laid eyes on this beauty!
