Historic Chester Inn, Jonesborough

This beautiful building is the Chester Inn. Built by Dr. William Chester in 1797. Can you believe it? He was an entrepreneur and doctor that saw a need for accommodations for travelers in the town of Jonesborough. It has been known by several names over the years. It was known as the “finest inn on the Western Frontier”.

It was a place where social gatherings were frequent and so were the guests including Andrew Jackson who gave a few speeches here to the residents of Jonesborough. It was converted to apartments in the 1940s and then the State of Tennessee purchased it in 1989. It opened as museum in 2011.
