One of the oldest homes in Portland, Tennessee is the Moye-Green House. It was built sometime before 1878 as a 2-room house by Henry and Kate Moye. This part of the home still exists in the back. In 1882, the two-story section in the front was added. Ten years later they added the porch.
It was placed on the Tennessee Preservation Trust’s “Ten in Tenn” list of the state’s most endangered historic properties in 2013. The elements did quite a number on the integrity of the house over the years. The community rallied to save it and as a result they were able to receive grants to restore it back to its former glory. It now belongs to the city and houses a museum.
