This Queen Anne was built in 1894 for Isaac William Pleasant Buchanan. He was cofounder of the Castle Heights Military Academy and also organized the Wilson County Bank in 1884. Among other accomplishments, Buchanan also invented a self-starting mechanism for automobiles and an automatic paint spray gun.
He chose well-known architect George F. Barber to prepare the plans for his home and Barber personally supervised its construction. Buchanan travelled to North Carolina to select the burled curly pine which was used in the foyer and central hall. This home was the first house in Lebanon with electricity and contains a full basement below.
