Beech Lawn Farm – Part 1

It felt almost as if I had stepped back in time last week when I visited Beech Lawn Farm in rural Tennessee. The Congers that live here now are the fifth generation to call this beautiful slice of heaven, home. ⁣

Back side of cabin

Five generations may sound young, but this is the oldest home in Lincoln county! The stone/log cabin I’m sharing with you today was built in 1805! I could hardly believe it. ⁣

Original door to cabin

The cabin was built by Isaac Conger, a Methodist Circuit Rider that was instrumental in establishing the Methodist movement here in Tennessee. Isaac Conger’s preaching circuit covered Lincoln, Bedford, Moore, and Coffee counties. When he wasn’t preaching, he was home building his farm.⁣

Front porch

This cabin is stone on the bottom and log on the top and provided great protection from the elements. One amazing feature of this cabin is how advanced it was for its time. See the picture of the sink. This was chiselled by hand and the small hole in the middle was where local spring water was “piped” in using pieces of wood just like pipe.

Most everything in this cabin is original including the doors, windows, and stonework. Not bad for being nearly 220 years old! Stay tuned for more on this amazing Tennessee farm!⁣
