Carthell Place – Tennessee

It was another day, another backroad. I like to choose the ones that look less-traveled. Cliché, I know. Sometimes they yield nothing and sometimes I find gems. I found a gem that day!

I don’t know a lot about this gem. Yet. It’s called Carthell Place. Other names associated with it are Frierson and Vest. It was built in 1821 and is well-loved and taken care of!

My Instagram friend @jonthebeloved1 has shared this history of the home with me:

Having belonged to his father Samuel Friersoon Jr first, it was long associated with the enterprising Lucius Frierson family that were big cotton producers in that sector. Much later in life, Lucius and wife Catherine had the Nationally registered 1876 Italinate/Second Empire home at 400 W. 7th built.
