Midway, Kentucky. A tiny little town hugging the railroad as if its life depends on it. Well, it kinda did! In 1830 when the Lexington and Ohio Railroad was being incorporated, what’s now Midway became a hub of activity. By 1835, the first steam locomotive came through what was then known as “Middleway”. It became the first town in Kentucky to be founded by a railroad!
But why Middleway? It was simply because the town was halfway on the rail line between Lexington and Frankfort. It was shortened to Midway in 1837.
The streets throughout the town are named for the original railroad officials. This pretty yellow home is on South Turner Street and was built in 1855.
