Murfreesboro’s House of Doctors

Chances are, if you have ever driven down Main Street in Murfreesboro, you may have laid eyes on this pretty old place. Its well-manicured landscaping and historic presence are hard to miss!

What most may not know is that this home has undergone a few changes in its time. To start, it was once part of land owned by J. T. Merchant. During that time, the entrance faced catty-corner toward East Main and South Highland streets. Sometime between 1910 and 1915, a Mr. Cannon bought the home and changed the entrance to face East Main and added a breakfast room along with a sleeping porch. He was also responsible for adding the front porch and columns that are still there today.

Mr. Cannon sold the home’s back lot where a red brick home was built and still stands.

This house has been called “House of Doctors” because of the respected line of physicians that lived here. It still belongs in the White family and remains a treasure to Murfreesboro’s Main Street.
