The Davis-Hull House, in Carthage, Tennessee, was built in 1889 for Calvin N. Davis. He was a prominent figure in the town of Carthage having helped establish the commercial industry there. He was a merchant in the Nashville area and decided to move to a more rural area once he and his wife had eight children.
The home changed hands several times over the years, but perhaps one of the most important people to have lived here was Cordell Hull. His father, William Hull, purchased this home in 1906 and lived here for 8 years. Cordell lived here with his father in 1907, but visited often during his time in Washington. He was a politician from Tennessee and the longest-serving U.S. Secretary of State.
This home is quite beautiful all perched on a hill. I’m sure it has many stories that it could tell about the people who have lived here. I am thankful it’s in such wonderful shape and can be a part of more stories to come!
