Historic Town Was Once Louisiana Capitol

Let’s head back on down to Louisiana on this Saturday to a small town named Donaldsonville. With a population of only about 6700 people, it’s not very big. But from 1829 to 1831, this small town was known as the capitol of Louisiana. It is also known as the place where the first African American citizen, Pierre Caliste Landry, was appointed to serve as Mayor of an incorporated town.โฃ
