Historic Hunter House

Yes, this beautiful house exists and not just in my dreams. I could barely function as I took pictures of it! It’s known as the most photographed house in Georgia! It’s also know as “The Gingerbread House” and I’m sure you can see why. Located in historic Madison, Georgia to be exact. I’ve got the scoop on its history and what seems to be a love story.โฃ

John Hudson Hunter fell in love with a girl that was still in school. He wrote to her faithfully until she completed finishing school. Afterwards, they wed and they completed this home together in 1885. Hunter put his initials in the porch’s gingerbread. If you look real close, you can see the two H’s in this picture at the top. All the trimwork was made locally in Madison at Atkinson Variety Works. โฃ

His son inherited the house and married his bride at the ripe age of 72. His wife made this house a home until her passing at the age of 103. Now her granddaughters are maintaining this beauty and the home has continued to stay in the same family since it was constructed. ๐Ÿ’•โฃ
