Hatcher-Groover-Shwartz House

I’m an absolute sucker for a Second Empire! We don’t have many in my area so I get excited to find them “in the wild”. They don’t seem to have many in Macon, Georgia either. In fact, this is the only one!

Marshall James Hatcher built this home in 1880 on Georgia Avenue. The basement is believed to have contained the original kitchen and coal storage. A later wooden addition to the rear of the home became the present kitchen and open porch.

This home has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1971.
