I was absolutely intrigued with this old house in Owensboro, Kentucky. The sheer size of it was one thing, but I’m sure you can guess what really caught my eye. The porch! It doesn’t exactly seem to fit the style of this house. I discovered that this home did not originally have that massive brick porch.
The second picture was taken around 1903 and is a better respresentation of the original look. (I was excited to find this historic picture mentioned by Gardens to Gables in a book called Owensboro, Postcard History Series by Terry Blake and David Edds Jr) You can really see the changes made to the Willard R. Bates House over the years.
