The Abner Polk House, in Hattiesburg, was built in 1905 for he and his wife, Ida. Abner Polk was the superindendent of schools. This was the first house in Hattiesburg to have Corinthian columns and it used to have a wrap-around porch. Ruth and Ed Polk removed this in 1950.
The home was in the Polk family for over 100 years! It eventually fell into disrepair and even violated the historical requirements for the Hattiesburg Historic Neighborhood. However, the folks that bought it in 2009 brought it back to code and back to life and now it shines once again! ✨
