Temperance Hall Circa 1893

Check out this building! Temperance Hall in Harriman was built in 1893 as part of American Temperance University. Its goal was to make the community “an ideal industrial city based on thrift, sobriety, superior intelligence, and exalted moral character.” In its second year, the university enrolled over 345 students from 20 different states, but was closed by 1908. It’s now Harriman’s city hall.
