John Lindsey House – Laurel, MS

The John Lindsey Home in Laurel was built in 1907. John Lindsey built a sawmill near the railroad tracks in Sandersville which led him to invent a wagon that would easily transport logs to the mill. His sawmill burned down and he moved to Laurel and changed his focus to only making wagons. He began Lindsey Log Wagon Company and around the same time, built this beautiful home. At its peak, his company was Mississippi’s largest employer!

It turned out that the wagons were good for more than just logs. They were also used in France during World War I for hauling heavy armor. Laurel has one of his wagons on display at the 1st National Bank Building if you’re ever in the area.

His home is now a beautiful bed and breakfast called the Grandiflora.
