Lanier-Smith Farm Continued

Before I close out this series on the Lanier-Smith Farm, I wanted to show you around some of the other things on the farm. Check out the captions.

The main house’s old smokehouse. ⁣

And before I do, I’d like to honor Joe Smith. He was a descendant of the Lanier family and a very special man. Much of the work and stonework you see throughout this farm was from his hands. Stone walls, outdoor fireplace, he even made a memorial to his ancestors. Gone too soon, but you can certainly feel his love of family and history all over this farm.

There’s yet another house on the farm! This home was built somewhere between 1900 and 1902. It was built by one of the ancestors and has always remained in the family. Even to this day! They joked that just about every family member has lived there at least once. They also had tenant farmers who would live there while working the farm. ⁣

Thank you for following along with this family’s incredible history and legacy! Here’s to another 175 years!

This really old and beautiful barn is located near the house in the first picture. I love it! Not pictured is an old milk house near this same house.
Another very old log cabin on the farm which was once used to house tenant farmers.⁣
This small cemetery is where Benjamin Jones Lanier (built the main farmhouse) and his wife Almanza Wallace Lanier are buried.⁣
The original chicken coop. One of the old records stated that they ordered 500 chickens at one time! They have made this into a little bar/ hangout area that they still call “the chicken coop”. ⁣
Not sure of the age of this shed, but I just thought it was adorable.
This gorgeous view is the backyard of another log house on the farm that I didn’t get a picture of. It belongs to the great-great grandson of Benjamin Bugg Lanier. Interestingly enough, that small stage in the picture is where Rory Feek and Joey Feek used to perform early on! Very cool connection there. ⁣
A peek inside the tenant farmer log cabin.⁣
