Wood Avenue Historic District

The Wood Avenue Historic District in Florence stretches four blocks along one of Florence’s oldest roads. The homes here were built primarily between 1880 and 1930. This was a time of major growth for this town. Wood Avenue was originally known as Market Street because it was the road that farmers would bring their produce to town. The name was changed to Wood Avenue in the 1870s to honor a member of the Wood family whose house still stands on this street today.

This is the Smith House. Built in 1889 for a prominent merchant in Florence. Check out all the different types of materials!
