Gannaway House – Stuck in Time

Gannaway House, Circa Early 1800s – Rutherford County, Tennessee

This incredible log house is a hidden treaure preserved almost as it was close to 210 years ago. I spent an afternoon learning about it from a man that has first-hand knowledge about this piece of history. This is the Gannaway House in Rutherford county. It was built in the early 1800s, perhaps 1810, by Burrell Gannaway who was a pioneer in Rutherford county and founding father of the city of Murfreesboro. It still stands today with the original logs. There is evidence that the back portion of the home was disassembled and reassembled at some point in time, but carefully placed in original position. This home features a unique 2nd story dogtrot. It was later owned by the Jordans from Williamson county.

Interesting fact: A former slave of Gannaway’s named Daniel Gannaway owned a market in the middle of town. His son, King Daniel Gannaway of Murfreesboro, went on to become a world-famous photographer in Chicago!
