Historic Home is Bed & Breakfast in Woodbury

It’s hard to believe that this house is 161 years old! Built by William Wharton in 1859, its use didn’t start out as a private home. This home was originally a dormitory for the Baptist Female College, later called Woodbury College. The college eventually transitioned to a nondenominational school and continued for several years. After it closed its doors in 1917, Dr. Jesse F. Adams bought the property for his private residence. He was a well-known businessman who owned and started several factories in Woodbury that boosted the area’s economic growth. But he is most commonly known for his contributions to medicine. He graduated from Vanderbilt in 1911 and served as county health officer for many years. He then went on to establish the county’s first hospital, The Good Samaritan Hospital. The Adams House is now a beautiful B&B. I would imagine that the original dormitory-style structuring must be convenient for its guests! What a house with a rich history! I’m sure this one has a lot of stories it could tell.
