Here’s a little shotgun house in the shade. It’s located in the Butchertown neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. Built sometime between 1875 and 1899. Washington Street is lined up and down with shotgun houses like this one. I think they’re so cool!
Why is it called a shotgun house? Well, they are characteristically long and narrow, and are generally a single room wide and a few rooms deep. It’s said they got the name shotgun from the idea that a bullet could travel all the way through the house if you open the front and back doors.
