Fulford Hall Transformed Over the Years

Fulford Hall on the campus at University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee was constructed in 1890. It was built for Charles Todd Quintard (1824-1898) who was the University’s first Vice Chancellor. The original Fulford Hall was a log cabin built in 1866. After it burned down in 1889, this home was built in its place. It was remodeled in 1911 at which point they removed the stonework and turrets. (See historical photo) It almost doesn’t look like the same house, but the 1890 structure remains today.โฃ

Fulford Hall has housed seven of the University’s Vice-Chancellors and from the 1910s to the 1930s, it served as a dormitory and infirmary. It’s now the Office of Admissions, Communications, and Financial Aid. It’s the only residence of a founder that the University still owns.โฃ

That porch is something else! And while I’m sad to know they removed the turrets (obsessed with turrets), I forgive them because they have preserved an incredible piece of University history!โฃ
