This little white church has quite the history in Darien, Georgia. It’s located on the beautiful Vernon Square. Methodism spread quickly throughout Georgia after John Wesley spent some time here among the Scots in 1737. In 1841, the cornerstone for the Darien Methodist Church was laid. It was set afire twice by Federal troops, but did not burn. It became the rallying place for the rebuilding of Darien. It was, however, destroyed by a hurricane in 1881. The present building was constructed in 1883 with funds raised by the Women’s Society. What a symbol of perseverance this little church is!
